I build practical AI systems for businesses, informed by running my own rental operation. ![Andrew Heldenmuth, founder and operator of Ascension AI](https://andrewheldy.dev/assets/andrew-heldy-720-YJjrneF-.jpg) ### Where the approach comes from My background is in hospitality, entrepreneurship, and operating businesses. Hospitality taught me that the details a guest never sees decide whether the experience works. Entrepreneurship taught me that time and attention are the scarce resources, and that every tool has to earn its place. I own and operate Rent With Heldy, a vehicle rental fleet business. Guest messages, scheduling, logistics, damage documentation, and reporting are daily work for me. So is the frustration of entering the same information in several places. ### A practical view of AI Running a business changes how I judge a tool. A useful system has to save attention for decisions and relationships. It also has to survive busy days, exceptions, and handoffs between people. I build and test systems in my own operation, where I can see what works and what creates more work. Much of the administrative load in a business is language: requests, messages, documents, and notes. Software can now read, classify, and draft from that material. I started with my own inbox triage, damage documentation, reporting, and information moving between systems. Some attempts helped immediately; others showed me where human review or simpler software was the better choice. Those lessons shaped [Ascension](https://andrewheldy.dev/ascension), the framework I use to reason about where a workflow is and where it should go. That experience keeps the questions practical: who maintains the system, who catches an exception, and what happens on a day when nobody has time to babysit a new tool? A useful plan has to answer those questions before launch. ### Work you can see - Live system #### Rent With Heldy My own rental operation, where I build and run systems.
